🏞️ Product Description:
The December Drop American Hybrid Chestnut is a blight-resistant, cold-hardy hybrid that provides sweet, high-protein chestnuts when wildlife needs them most—deep into winter. A blend of American and Chinese chestnut genetics, this tree combines the vigor and disease resistance of Chinese chestnuts with the native value and cold hardiness of American chestnuts.
Ideal for wildlife habitat projects and food plots, this late-season producer stands out as a reliable winter food source in Zones 5–9.
🌰 Late-Season Wildlife Attraction:
Dropping nuts from mid-December into early January, this tree supplies critical winter nutrition after most other mast trees have gone dormant. Deer, turkeys, and small game are drawn to the energy-rich chestnuts, keeping them on your land when food is scarce and temperatures are low.
🦌 Why It Matters for Your Land:
The post-rut and early winter months can be tough on wildlife. This tree helps reduce stress and supports herd health during this crucial time—making it an exceptional addition to any late-season hunting strategy or habitat plan.
🌱 Adaptable and Resilient:
This hybrid thrives in a variety of soils and is tolerant to drought and disease, especially chestnut blight. Whether planted on a ridge, edge, or plot, it’s a fast-growing, low-maintenance performer built to last.
🔎 How We Identify a Tree:
This December Drop seedling comes from a mother tree we’ve studied for over a decade—a consistent late-dropper that produces chestnuts every year well into December. While seedlings are not genetically identical and drop timing may vary, these descendants give you the best possible shot at extending chestnut availability into winter.
If you're serious about feeding wildlife late into the season, this is your most promising opportunity.
We currently have a limited supply, so customers are limited to 10 trees.

Healthy Trees, On Time!
I placed my first order couple months ago. Everything came on time, order was right, and trees healthy. Everything has leafed out and growing great! Had such a good experience that I placed a second order. Can't wait for it to arrive!

Oak Orchard
I purchased 35 hybrid oak trees from Morse in 2005 and a majority of them are still alive and have been producing acorns for years. One is even big enough to hunt from. I planted them with tree tubes and watered them regularly for the first two years. It has been a pleasure watching them grow.

Great customer service!
I highly recommend Morse Nursery! My trees arrived 100% healthy. I was really impressed by the height of the trees. I expected little trees like I’ve gotten from other nursery’s. Will keep buying from you guys. Great customer service too.
