About the Sargent Oak #5
I’m often asked the question, “What is your favorite Oak”? Well, this #5 and #7 is about as good as they come! This hybrid produces acorns every year, with heavy acorn crops on alternating years producing between 800 and 1000 pounds. You heard correctly, that’s up to a ½ ton of acorns! As you might expect from a hybrid cross of two members of the white oak family, this tree produces a sweet acorn that is widely consumed by wildlife of all kinds, especially whitetails. The parent tree exhibits a long duration acorn drop pattern, with many acorns hanging on late into the season. This is the primary reason for my selection of this tree. Acorns ripening and dropping over time is a fantastic attribute when feeding and holding wildlife on your property late in the season.
