About Morse Persimmon:
This selection is from our most cold hardy strain of Persimmon, possible hybrid between Meader and Early Golden. This selection is a good choice for our more northern customers that have had trouble establishing Persimmons in cold climates. Persimmons are tricky because if you find a tree that is cold hardy usually the fruit remains green without enough time to ripen. This selection has been very cold hardy and the fruit ripens by November. Like all other Persimmons the fruit has high sugar content, fruit enjoyed by all types of wildlife especially whitetail and turkeys. The fruit on Persimmon ripens late in the fall and doesn’t really start to fall from the tree until after a couple of hard frosts. Produces fruit in 4-6 years. Will grow in all soil types including sand or clay. Wood is from the ebony family and is very valuable. Golf clubs and pool cues are made form this very hard wood. These trees are male and female, so plant them in groups of insure fruit. Seedlings are always small in size do to the air root pruning process.
